Elizabeth Scuse

Elizabeth Scuse

MDiv RP RMFT

Elizabeth has been working with individuals, couples and families at Emmaus Counselling Services for over 10 years. She completed her M.Div. degree (specializing in individual, couple, and family counselling) after having worked in primary classrooms for the York Board of Education for over 19 years. Elizabeth is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFT) with the Canadian Association for Couple & Family Therapy (CACFT). Elizabeth became a registered member of the International Focusing Institute in 2005.
Elizabeth has also received training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Sandtray Therapy.
Elizabeth has performed volunteer leadership ministry in churches since the 1970’s. Her “world view” comes out of travelling with itinerate ministry teams in North America and Europe. Over the years in her home churches, Elizabeth has worked with small teams running programs such as Alpha, The School of Healing Prayer (by the MacNutts), and the Alpha Parenting Course.
She has the experience, training and a heart towards church leadership, including those doing music worship. Relationships as well as the work load can be very difficult at times. As a counselling therapist Elizabeth tries to create a calm, safe environment in which each one can work through some of their own needs. She understands this can, hopefully, result in a refilling of energy as well as peacefulness.
Elizabeth’s great joy in life and also as a trained Psychotherapist is in being a realistic, empathetic listener and encourager who prays (often internally praying if in session). Elizabeth sees individuals who are experiencing burn out, personal discouragement, relational disconnects, and times of grief. She also sees couples as co-therapist along side Paul Scuse (see below). Elizabeth is the wife and life partner of Paul Scuse. They have been married for over 40 years and are proud parents and grandparents.
